Abi Steinberg (she/her), Chair

Abigail joined the board in 2021. She lives in Denver, Colorado where she works to improve livelihoods and address intractable issues across the U.S., Africa, Southeast Asia, and India. She has worked in social impact and mission-driven for-profit enterprises, academia, philanthropy, entrepreneurship, government, and consulting. She is passionate about SAME Inc. because she loves building community, creating a sense of belonging, and connecting over a warm meal.

Ariel Kiyomi Daoud (she/her), Chair Emeritus

Kiyomi joined the Board of Directors in 2020. She recently moved from Denver, CO to Cincinnati, Ohio to complete training as a resident physician in Psychiatry and Family Medicine at the University of Cincinnati/The Christ Hospital. Prior to becoming a physician she was a ski patroller, clinical researcher, and dancer. She loves SAME Inc. because meaningful community and delicious food are essential to living a healthy life and SAME Cafe provides both these elements of wellness. Food is medicine.

Allison Dodd (she/her), Secretary

Allison Dodd joined the Board of Directors in 2020. She lives in Denver, Colorado where she is a partner at the law firm Messner Reeves, LLP. Allison is passionate about SAME Inc. because she believes everyone deserves access to delicious, healthy food.  

Sue Bevins (she/her), Denver Liaison

Sue Bevins joined the board in fall of 2022. She loves living in Denver, CO and enjoys hiking with friends, spending time in the mountains with family, impromptu gatherings with the magical people in her neighborhood, going out to dinner as often as possible with friends, and local theaters and events. Sue has volunteered with SAME since 2016, and she joined the SAME board to make a difference. The organization is clearly making a tangible contribution to society by caring for people and creating community for any and all who would like to join the SAME table. 

Michael Lewis (he/him), Finance Committee Vice Chair, DEI Committee

Michael became a board member 2023. He lives in Aurora, Colorado and is the Associate Director of Business Intelligence for University of Colorado Medicine. In his free time, he enjoys cycling and gardening. There are many food pantries that provide aid; however, this can lead to the recipient to not feeling valued. He loves SAME Inc. because of its commitment to providing access to healthy food with dignity.  

Jillian Bunge (she/her), Toledo Liaison

Jill Bunge resides in Toledo, OH after completing her undergraduate degree in Environmental Studies in Vermont and AmeriCorps VISTA in Billings, MT. Her 13-year career in the nonprofit sector has predominantly been focused in the hunger and food security space. She currently serves as the Vice President of Impact & Outreach at United Way of Greater Toledo. In her free time, she enjoys gardening, sewing, cooking delicious food and enjoying nature with the company of her dog, as often as possible. Jill is committed to the mission of SAME because she deeply believes that everyone should have access to healthy, delicious food and that sharing meals is a human expression of love

Kedar Morarka (he/him), Finance Committee, DEI Committee

Kedar joined the board in 2022. He lives in Aurora, Colorado. He retired last year after serving as CEO of a manufacturing company that he along with his business partner started in Denver in 1996. For many years Kedar has felt a calling to help feed the hungry. He loves SAME Inc. because he believes everyone in the community should have access to good testing healthy food in a dignified environment regardless of the ability to pay.

Prakash Karamchandani (he/him), Finance Committee

Prakash joined the Board of Directors in 2022. He lives in Toledo, Ohio with his wife and two children and is a co-founder and CEO of Balance Pan-Asian Grille, a chain of fast-casual Asian-fusion restaurants focused on affordable fresh food, and Balance Farms, a 9000-sq ft urban aquaponics farm based in Toledo. His areas of experience include Development, Marketing, Finance, and Technology.

He graduated with a BA in Finance from The University of Toledo. Prakash has been recognized by Nation's Restaurant News in 2022 as one of the Most Influential CEOs, has maintained a position as a Top 24 Fast Casual Executive annually since 2016, and awarded a 20 under 40 award by Leadership Toledo. His brand Balance has been recognized by QSR in 2022 on their 40/40 Hottest Concepts List, Fast Casual as a Top 100 Concept annually since 2016, along with multiple culinary accolades by local publications and nationally by Iron Chef Michael Symon. Prakash is passionate about SAME because he believes access to food is a human right, that food builds community, and has the power to heal physically, emotionally, and spiritually.

Sophie Maus (she/her), Finance Committee Secretary

Sophie Maus joined the Board of Directors in 2022. She lives in Nashville, TN and works as a Consultant for Boston Consulting Group. In her free time, Sophie enjoys going to yoga classes and going for long walks with her partner and pup. She is passionate about SAME because she believes that everyone deserves access to healthy food without having to sacrifice their dignity.

Matt Salis (he/him), Finance Committee

Matt joined the Board of Directors in 2020. He lives in Denver, Colorado where he is an author, a speaker, a podcaster, a high school soccer coach, and the Executive Director of a nonprofit named Stigma. He loves SAME Inc. because the healthy food we serve with unmatched culinary skill not only addresses food insecurity, but delivers nourishment with dignity.

Vaughn Sayers (he/him), Programs and Data Committee Chair

Vaughn joined the Board of Directors in 2022. He lives in Jacksonville, Florida, where he serves as a Global Shaper in the Global Shapers Community, an initiative of the World Economic Forum. Vaughn is an Engagement & Outreach Associate at the Council for Inclusive Capitalism, where he works to make the world more inclusive and sustainable. He is passionate about SAME Inc.’s mission and the organization’s commitment to empowering others through holistic programming, healthy food, community, and kindness.

Matt Stanek (he/him), Finance Committee Chair

Matt joined the Board of Directors in 2022. He lives in Erie, and works in Denver Colorado where he is a Finance Director for Johns Manville, and a board member of a nonprofit named Stigma. Matt has his MBA from the University of Minnesota Carlson School of Business. In his free time he likes to be in the mountains with his wife Marin hiking, skiing, fly fishing or just enjoying nature. He loves SAME Inc. because it allows anyone, regardless of means, to eat healthy food with dignity, learn skills that can be used to better themselves and is a safe place for those that need it.

Anne Skelton (she/her), Recruitment and Onboarding Committee Chair

Anne joined the Board of Directors in 2022. She is originally from Albuquerque, NM, and, after spending six years in Denver, moved to Richmond, VA, where she is an MD-PhD student at Virginia Commonwealth University School of Medicine. She loves SAME, Inc and the opportunity to be involved on the Board of Directors because she is passionate about food security as a determinant of individual and community wellness and believes that providing healthy food in a dignified manner makes all of us healthier.  

Karen Raney Wolkins (She/her), Vice Chair

Karen joined the SAME national Board of Directors in the summer of 2023, after starting with Toledo’s SAME Advisory Committee. She lives in Toledo, Ohio where she is currently the Commissioner of Parks.

Karen’s 38-year career has included business development, marketing, and organizational leadership in for-profit, nonprofit, and municipal sectors. Karen’s passion for food justice was ignited almost 15 years ago when she oversaw the community gardening program Toledo GROWs, in her role as Director of the Toledo Botanical Garden. She sees SAME, Inc. as a powerful, dignified way of providing access to fresh, healthy food, something she believes should be a basic human right.
