SAME Cafe | Serving Good Food for the Greater Good

Newsletter #152

Last week was another busy week for
us!  On Tuesday night we were guest speakers at Eco Tuesday, a
sustainable business leaders networking forum.  It was great to share
SAME Cafe with so many eco-friendly Denver folks.  Thank to Rich and
Marina for inviting us to be a part!  We were happy to share how our
little restaurant strives to be environmentally friendly and how we at
SAME make sacrifices to limit our impact on the Earth.
Take a look at this
YouTube video made for us by a friend of the cafe, Tom Zulanas and
Denver Metro Marketing.  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IYOf85JO2aI

Friday was an exciting day as we had visitors from Boone, NC here to
check out the cafe and see how they could open a restaurant like ours
in their community.  Chris and Linda were lucky.  While they were here
they got to work with Cathy and Dirk of Cafe 180 (soon to open on S.
Broadway in Denver – I think we mentioned them last week) and Denise of
One World also stopped by.  In addition to this, Annette of the possible
Washington D.C. cafe just happened to drop by too.  It was a
mini-summit of pay-what-you-can cafes.  It made for an excellent
afternoon!

Here is the latest Westword
blog about the excitement brewing in Denver.  http://blogs.westword.com/cafesociety/2010/05/same_cafe_is_inspiring_a_crop.php

Starting in July we will be utilizing a new volunteer
schedule.  We are asking volunteers to sign up for either a 10-12:30
shift or a shift starting at 12:30 and ending at 3:00 p.m.  This will
allow us to focus more on serving people rather than each hour having to
train new volunteers.  The increase in numbers of customers we are
seeing is the motivating factor for this transition.  We know this is a
transition for some of our long standing volunteers but we hope that it
won’t be too much of an inconvenience for most.

Brad’s brother and sister-in-law are here from IL this weekend.  We
are
excited to spend some quality time with them!  It was so nice to take
today off for the holiday and rest.  It has been a while since we had a
day off!
