SAME Cafe | Serving Good Food for the Greater Good

News and Menu 06/24/2008

We
were so excited to spend our weekend (Sunday and Monday) in the
mountains (Thanks Jen & Jon.)  It was great to get out of the city
and just relax.  Brad and I have been teasing each other lately that we
have forgotten how to relax.  We need to find what our hobbies are
again.  It has been a long time since we had the extra time.  Having
both Sunday and Monday off has been a great blessing.  The fresh
mountain air was rejuvenating and we even started to think about
expanding our hours or the days we are open now that this is Brad's
full-time job.

Last week we were so touched by a woman who left a voice mail (When
our voice mail was working that is-Comcast is still trying to solve the
phone problem.  We apologize if you have been trying to reach us by
phone.  When in doubt, email us!)  Anyway, this woman left a tearful
message about just losing her fiance to heart disease.  She was
reading the Cooking Light article about SAME when she found out about
Vance's passing.  When I could finally call her back (wiping away my
own tears) Stacey and I talked about Vance and how he was so special to
her.  He would often times take a homeless man out to dinner,
remembering himself what it was like to be homeless.  Stacey felt it
was no coincidence that she was reading about SAME Cafe when she heard
the sad news. She felt that was a sign and is setting up a memorial
fund in Vance's name. Stacey and Vance and their family and friends
will be forever part of the SAME Cafe family.  As we often say in my
family, there are no such things as coincidences.  Please keep Stacey
and Vance and their families in your hearts.

Just a
quick note to let you know that the interview that Brad recorded a few weeks ago was
broadcast as part of this past weekend's The Splendid Table program on NPR.
The program is about 45 minutes long and very interesting.  Our quick
segment is towards the very end of the program, in the last 7 minutes
or so.   Below is a link with information about the podcast, or you can
